    Project "Gift a Kid"

"What can I do to serve the community?"

Have you ever thought of the question above? I have always been thinking about it. I would always love to give something to the community. But what is the BEST way? Do I knock on any orphanage door and ask if they need assistance? Or do I just donate my money in those charity boxes around town? Will the money reach the organization meant to be reached?

Knowing that AMBP is supporting Rotaract Club of Kuala Lumpur (RACKL) in the "Gift a Kid" project, it is a way for me to share and give to those who need help and this is for sure a correct channel to help.

This project, "Gift a Kid" is organised by RACKL, with the support of AMBP, aimed to help approximately around 100 underprivileged children in Klang Valley to enrich their educational experience.

    They hope to :

    1) Provide back-to-school materials like books, stationery, uniforms and other kinds of materials needed for the school children aged between 6 to 15 years old.

    2) Encourage leadership and confidence by conducting interactive sessions and educational trips.

    3) Allow kids to be kids by organising "FUN" trips. For the first round, they are bringing them for a movie outing (possibly on 19 Dec 08), tickets sponsored by United International Pictures (UIP).

For me, the most important fact of this project is that children from Rumah WAKE 1 & SRJ (T) Cheras will benefit the outcome of this project. FYI, Rumah WAKE 1 is a home for children with HIV+ and their affected siblings under Pertubuhan Wanita dan Kesihatan Kuala Lumpur while SRJ (T) Cheras is a tamil school with students who are mostly from low-income family who live in the surrounding low-cost flats and squatter areas.

By blogging about this project, I am already sending a kid to the movie outing. One post will send one kid to the movie. Isn't that good?

What else can you do to help?

Simple! Just blog about this project in your own blog and spread the news to anyone you know to help.

If you wish to do a little bit more, sponsor a kid from as little as RM10 to the full pack of RM150. For more details, just click here (Project Gift a Kid page) or here (UIP Caption Contest page).

"Hey, girls! Wanna go for a movie with the kids?"
